Atlantic Centre for Comparative Biomedical Research
| The Atlantic Centre for Comparative Biomedical Research (ACCBR) is a central research facility located in the newly expanded Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). The ACCBR exists to encourage inter-disciplinary comparative biomedical research benefiting both human and animal health. By providing a central laboratory area with specialized research suites, the goal of the ACCBR is to facilitate and encourage collaborative research among basic and clinical researchers from the Atlantic Veterinary College, the University of Prince Edward Island and other Atlantic universities. |

The Process
The ACCBR is designed to create new opportunities for its users to expand and conduct their research. Technical support is available to guide you through the set-up and technical execution of your work. Use of the general laboratory space and office space is provided as-needed for those working in the ACCBR over a time-limited period. Access to equipment and specialized facilities is currently available at no charge. In future, a fee for use of the ACCBR equipment and lab facilities may be charged on a cost-recovery basis.

The Centre
The ACCBR is an 8,000 sq foot core research facility featuring:
- 80% of space dedicated to research, 20% office space
- Seminar and interaction room
- Large multiple-user wet laboratories
- Skilled technical support to guide researchers in the use of specialized facilities

Specialized facilities to include state-of-the-art suites designed to facilitate work in fields such as:
- Molecular Biology
- Animal surgery and instrumentation
- Microscopy and imaging
- Cell culture
- Electrophysiology and patch-clamping
- Behavioural studies
- Biomechanics
- Radioisotopes
- Drug and chemical analysis
